Worm Holes:
Resulting from the entrapment of gas between the solidifying dendrites of weld metal, often showing ‘herringbone’ array.
Causes:
- The gas may arise from contamination of surfaces to be welded, or be prevented from escaping from beneath the weld by joint crevices
