Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award: (National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in a partnership with ASQ)
Award criteria are built on seven core values: leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, information analysis, human resource focus, process management
and business results.
Three awards may be given in each category every year. Categories include small business, manufacturing, service, education and health-care.
Deming Prize: The Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers (JUSE).
Awarded to individuals or teams who have contributed significantly to the development and dissemination of total quality control.
The prize has three categories: Application Prize, Prize for Individuals and Quality Control Award for Operations Business Units.
Award was established in 1951 to commemorate Deming’s distinguished service.
Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing: Utah State University, College of Business.
Established in 1988 to promote an awareness of lean manufacturing concepts and to recognize companies that achieve world-class manufacturing status.
Applications are open to manufacturers in the United States, Mexico and Canada and to researchers around the world.
European Quality Award: EFQM, with the support of the EOQ and the European Commission
Originally, the awards were intended for large or medium-large business organizations. In 1996,a separate award was introduced for public service providers. An award for small to medium enterprises (SMEs) will be introduced in 1997.
The EQA is based on the model. The model expresses the concept that customer
satisfaction, people (employee) satisfaction and a positive impact on society can be achieved through leadership as the driving force behind policy and strategy, people management, and management of resources and processes, and that this leads ultimately to excellence in business results. The clear division between enablers and results, with a 50 percent weighting attributed to each of the two blocks, is the distinguishing characteristic of the EQA.
